“The arbitral award puts an end to the dispute between Uralkali and Haas regarding the sponsorship agreement.”

This legal tangle began when Haas terminated its contract with Uralkali on March 4, 2022, citing the disrepute clause activated by Uralkali’s and the Mazepins’ connections with the Russian government as just cause for doing so. Uralkali argued this termination was unjust and demanded the return of $13 million previously paid to Haas for the 2022 sponsorship.
In contrast, Haas has maintained that the arbitral panel upheld their decision to terminate the sponsorship, contending they had “just cause” based on the association of Uralkali with the Russian government amidst the geopolitical climate. The statement from Haas explains:
Haas Formula LLC, the owner of the Haas F1 Team, announced the completion of its arbitration proceeding with PJSC Uralkali, its former title sponsor. The arbitration panel ruled that Haas had ‘just cause’ to terminate its sponsorship contract with Uralkali, and denied Uralkali’s claims for breach of contract.
