Sergio Perez is back under pressure at Red Bull just weeks after being handed a new deal by the constructors’ champions. No sooner had the Mexican committed his future to the team until the end of 2026, than he was in the firing line again after a disastrous weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix.
And he’s now been called out by Red Bull chief Helmut Marko following his second successive race retirement in Montreal.
After a first lap collision in Monaco, Perez could only qualify in 16th place in Canada, and then damaged his rear wing in the race after spinning off the track.
But the problems didn’t end there. The 34-year-old was then deemed by race stewards to have completed the remainder of lap 53 with a ‘significantly damaged car’, before heading back to the pit lane and retiring.
