Lincoln City manager Michael Skubala has shared insight into his brief stint as the Leeds United interim head coach after Jesse Marsch’s sacking last season.
Plenty of blame can be placed on a number of factors that contributed to Leeds’ Premier League downfall last season, from the boardroom decisions, down to the managerial decisions and player performances.
One player who wasn’t tarred with the brush was Michael Skubala, who looked to hold his own and keep the club from falling apart during his short interim period just over a year ago.
Skubala is one of the more interesting coaches in the EFL right now, currently in charge of League One Lincoln City, having previously enjoyed experiences with Leeds as U21 coach, England youth and futsal setups, and being director of football at Loughborough University.
During his time at Elland Road before leaving in November 2023, Skubala had a period on the sidelines as the club’s interim head coach, leading the side out in back-to-back games against Manchester United, and a trip to Everton – before being replaced by Javi Gracia.
Speaking to Coaches’ Voice about his time in charge of the Whites’ first team, he shares what his immediate response was with organising the side in the wake of Marsch’s exit:
Tactically, I put my own touch on how I wanted the team to go out against United. Jesse had a brilliant way, which I agreed with a lot, but I wanted to put my own fingerprints on the team. In those games, we played with a little bit more width. We were aggressive in the wide areas, and put Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville in the team. I thought both carried more attacking threat.
