The Pittsburgh Steelers lost a legend on Thursday night.

Linebacker Andy Russell, who played for the team from 1963-76, passed away at the age of 82.

In his 12 seasons with the Steelers, he helped them win Super Bowls IX and X, plus made seven Pro Bowls. He also appeared in 168 games and made 162 starts.
He played alongside Jack Ham and Jack Lambert and together, they formed one of the best linebacker trios in the NFL.

The news has Steelers fans from all over the world feeling gutted.

“RIP Andy Russell, an all-time Steelers great. Incredibly intelligent, successful guy after football. Steelers royalty. Captain of the greatest defense of all time. Very sad day,”.
Met Andy Russell a few times through Homeless Children’s Education Fund and he was so kind, so smart, so genuine. Gets lost in the shuffle among all the great LBs Steelers have had, but he was a great one. Rest In Power, sir,”
