Cave was selected by the New York Yankees in 2011 and progressed through their minor-league system before the Minnesota Twins claimed him after he was designated for assignment in 2018. He helped Bryce Harper during his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which is how he made the Phillies’ Opening Day roster. Cave was in the Phillies’ MiLB framework until July 21 when he got back to the MLB group and completed the season with them before re-getting paperwork done for 2024 on a one-year, $1 million agreement. Last season, he cut .212/.272/.348 out of 203 plate appearances (69 OPS+). He drove in five runs. His guarded details are unexceptional.
