TAMPA, Fla. — Wednesday was another busy news day for the Yankees.
An MRI and other tests on Gerrit Cole’s elbow revealed no tear, so it’s looking like the Yankees only might be without their ace for one-or-two-months instead of the whole season and part of next due to a Tommy John surgery.
The update on their captain was even better. Aaron Judge, shut down with no BP since Monday due to sore abdominal muscles, apparently is over his injury scare and scheduled to play Saturday.
After the Yankees’ 9-4 loss to the Red Sox, two non-roster players who were in the mix for Opening Day roster spots were cut.
Infielder Josh VanMeter and reliever Duane Underwood Jr., were reassigned to the minor-league camp.

VanMeter, who was 2-for-22 with a homer in 12 games, has been competing with Oswaldo Cabrera, Kevin Smith and Jahmai Jones for a bench spot.
Underwood allowed only one earned run over 4 1/3 innings in four spring outings and was in the running for one of two open bullpen spots along with Nick Burdi, Dennis Santana, Clayton Beeter, Will Warren, Nick Ramirez and others.
The Yankees’ roster is down to 49 players, but at least five will start the season on the injured list: pitchers Gerrit Cole and Tommy Kahnle and McKinley Moore; shortstop Oswald Peraza and outfielder Jasson Dominguez.
