July 6, 2024

College football’s list carousel never closes, but as we approach February’s national marking day and the official conclusion of the 2024 selecting cycle, things have at slightest moderated down a bit on the staff front. Coaching changes have guaranteed that a few schools may still see exchange entrance passages, but now’s as great a time as any to require stock.

Around this time of year, I typically spit out the primary SP+ projections of the unused season, based on a forever-changing combination of returning generation, selecting and later history. As continuously, those projections stem from three essential questions:

How great has your group been as of late? How well has it enlisted? And who returns from final year’s program? SP+ projections come another week, but let’s go ahead and bargain with that final address. Who returns a majority of final year’s generation (or has done the leading job of bringing in generation from another group)? Who is beginning from scratch?

For some a long time presently, I’ve been endeavoring to grow how we degree returning generation. The equation I have made shifts with each unused year of information and has had to move a ton with the rising number of exchanges. But the essence remains the same:

Tall or moo returning generation rates relate well with change and relapse. They might not ensure a great or terrible group, but they can still tell us a parcel.

With that in intellect, here are the returning generation rates and rankings for all 134 FBS groups for 2024. (Yes, we’re up to 134 groups. Hi, Kennesaw State!)
